Vision systems monitor dashboard lamps
Automotive lighting systems manufacturer is verifying lamps, used for the illumination of car dashboards, using the latest vision monitoring equipment operating in a 150 millisec time frame.
Osram from Treviso, Italy, a well-known manufacturer of lighting systems for the automotive industry, needed to verify lamps used for the illumination of car dashboards The machine producing the lamps was already using a vision system, but because it had become outdated it was not possible to introduce new controls in order to perform a better verification of the product

Pickled copper sheets checked by machine vision
Cognex says that Wieland-Werke AG, one of the world's largest copper strip manufacturers, has integrated Cognex's SmartView ICN web inspection system on its copper pickling line in Germany.
For this reason TEC, a Cognex System Integrator was asked to substitute the old vision system with four Cognex In-Sight 2000 vision systems.
The application of the Cognex In-Sight vision systems is critical because of the high production speed of the lamps, which offer less than 150 milliseconds for acquiring an image, analysing it and communicating the result to the PLC.
Another important factor is the difficult positioning of the cameras and the illuminators.
Cognex vision systems have to perform a lot of measurements in two different positions on the machine, the first station makes the analysis when the lamp is off, checking its dimensions, plus presence, position and shape of the fillament, while the second station makes similar checks on illluminated lamps.
Each station includes two In-Sight 2000 vision systems offering both lateral and frontal views of the lamps.
For the illumination small red backlights are used, one for each view.
The cameras are placed side by side and a mirror is used for the frontal view.
A monitor is connected to each vision system allowing the operators to view the behaviour of the system.
The In-Sight 2000 machine vision system employs a spreadsheet user interface for configuring the vision application as well as a handheld console for easy navigation.
In-Sight offers a full library of Cognex's proven vision software tools, including PatFind, which is able to locate parts, despite changes in part orientation, size, or appearance.
Thanks to these powerful tools, TEC was able to meet the performance specifications asked for by the customer. Request a free brochure from Cognex UK ...
