Hinge maker uses DVT 510 camera sensor

A Cognex product story

Mayer and Co or Maco, manufacturer of rotary and tilting hinges for windows and doors, has used Cognex vision systems to solve its production problems.

The components are manufactured at the company's main plants in Salzburg and Trieben, Austria.

The company required a vision system to detect whether the workpiece was inserted with the correct side facing upwards.

The DVT 510 camera sensor from Cognex was fitted on the production machine.

A recess in the gears allows the camera to detect immediately whether the piece is facing the right way up - if not, the camera immediately sends an error message to the machine controller.

A separate mechanism then rotates the gear to the correct position and it can then be processed as normal.

The DVT 510 has reduced rejects to practically zero.

The technical capabilities of the Cognex DVT 510 include an Ethernet port, compatibility with standard bus systems, remote operation in real time, a CMOS image chip, 32 Mbytes DRAM data memory, 8 Mbytes Flash memory and Intellect camera software.

The software is easy to operate yet provides optimum scope for adjustment.
