World Class awards from the GTMA

At an awards ceremony in London, Claro's managing director Howard Chadwick received the World Class award in the precision machining category.
He was delighted when called forward again, together with Claro technical director Tim Godolphin, by presenters Geoff Highley, the general manager of McLaren International, and the editor of Production Engineering Solutions magazine, Simon Simmons, to find his company had won the overall award, the World Class Golden Globe.
Geoff Highley told the assembled audience: ''To be World Class a company needs to do far more than merely survive, even these days when survival is no mean feat.

This year's winner has done all this and more" And just to make the day complete, three of Claro's apprentices John Mercer, Dominic Watson and Peter Barton, were presented with certificates of achievement from the GTMA for their contribution to the company's success in completing their craftsmanship training.
From humble beginnings 25 years ago when three engineers including Mr Chadwick and Mr Godolphin, took the bold decision to quit steady jobs and strike out alone, Claro Precision Engineering has grown at a fast pace.
Today it has a workforce of 42 with scope to expand towards the 50 mark in the coming years.
Howard Chadwick was delighted with the accolades, particularly as they came from Claro's peers.
He said the awards were yet more proof that Claro's philosophy of continual improvement was the right one.
''We are continuing to set high standards and when we win awards like this it is recognition that we are achieving them.'' Mr Chadwick added: ''While I was proud to receive the awards, it was on behalf of the whole company, and was due to the high levels of investment in equipment and people which we continue to make." Over the last two years the company has made three key decisions that have helped it to increase its World Class rating.
It has completely revised its factory layout, improved its environmental and waste controls and has put a high level of investment in equipment.
''In this industry we need to invest at a high level consistently.
We recognise the importance of offering customers a complete service with value added.
It is all about getting the best equipment and then using it in the smartest way possible, something our team are particularly good at'' said Mr Chadwick.
