The newly launched Gasman single-gas detector family from Crowcon has received full ATEX approval for use in hazardous areas.

The newly launched Gasman single-gas detector from Crowcon has received full ATEX approval for use in hazardous areas.

Available for flammable, oxygen and toxic gases in the same, extremely small body, the Gasman now carries ATEX codes for ambient temperatures from -20C to +65C, making it suitable for use in even the most severe conditions.

With interchangeable 'i-module' sensors for an increasing range of exotic gases, the Gasman provides simple, single-button operation in a small package which weighs as little as 80g.

Despite its compact size, the unit is fully protected against dust and water ingress to IP67.

Gasman uses a housing made from rugged polycarbonate with a full elastomeric overmoulding to ensure extreme impact resistance.

Should a hazard be detected, the Gasman warns with a 95dBA audible sounder, a pair of striking blue and red LEDs, and an internal vibrator.

Two alarm levels can be set, and as well as instantaneous readings, Time Weighted Average alarm is also available for toxic models.

In addition to a large numerical display for the gas level, the backlit LCD panel clearly indicates battery life remaining and display mode.

During start-up the Gasman displays the type of sensor fitted, and shows if calibration is due within 30 days, if calibration is overdue or if a service is required.

Rechargeable models are available for all gas types, while for toxic and oxygen sensors, dry cell replaceable battery models can also be supplied.

Crowcon's Gasman measures 90 x 48 x 24mm, with a weight of 80g (toxic), 110g (oxygen) and 130g (flammable).

The ATEX codes are: ATEX II 2G EEx iad IIC T4 (Tamb -20C to +65C) for the flammable unit and ATEX II 1G EEx ia IIC T4 (Tamb -20C to +65C) for the oxygen and toxic models.

Crowcon, part of the Halma group, is a world leader in portable and fixed gas detection instruments.
