Crowcon Detection Instruments is one of a group of successful companies to join a leading-edge scheme designed to help industry improve its safety record.

The firm recently received accreditation from SAFEcontractor, a programme that recognises very high standards of health and safety practices amongst UK contractors.

Crowcon specialises in developing, manufacturing and marketing innovative, reliable and cost-effective flammable and toxic gas detection equipment.

Its products are sold throughout the world, serving those industries where accidental leakage of gas or vapour can become a toxic or explosive danger.

"The company's application for SAFEcontractor accreditation was driven by the need for a uniform standard across the business," says quality systems manager David Maina.

"It demonstrates Crowcon's commitment to ensuring safe and environmentally aware working practices on its own premises as well as on customer sites.

"All Crowcon's service and installation engineers are now fully trained in compliance with SAFEcontractor practices".

SAFEcontractor is operated by international safety, health and environmental risk specialists, the National Britannia Group.

Under the system, businesses undergo a vetting process which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice.

Those companies meeting the high standard are included on the database, which is accessible online to registered users.
