Cutting fluid suits aluminium and
magnesium
Thought to be the first water soluble cutting and grinding fluid specifically designed for use with aluminium and magnesium alloys eliminates machine cleaning and fluid changes.
Castrol Industrial has launched Hysol AM, the first water soluble cutting and grinding fluid specifically designed for the metalworking industry for use with both aluminium and magnesium alloys The new fluid achieves unparalleled compatibility and performance with aluminium and magnesium, making it possible to machine both metals without sacrificing part quality or incurring unnecessary production delays for machine cleaning and fluid changes

Cutting fluid reduces aluminium machining downtime
Specially formulated for machining aluminium, a cutting fluid has helped a leading automotive component manufacturer reduce downtime, improve tool life and save on coolant costs.
Coolant trials lead to significant annual savings
Offering a One-Stop-Shop engineering service that includes casting, machining and paint finishing, a Sandy company has saved more than 50% on coolant consumption - an annual saving of GBP18,000.
In extensive laboratory tests, and field and customer trials, Hysol AM has proved effective with water hardness in excess of the 3,000ppm typically encountered when machining magnesium alloys, and in resisting foaming at high pressures in the low water hardness conditions created when machining aluminium.
In milling, drilling and tapping trials with both magnesium and aluminium, customers reported excellent surface finish, significantly increased coolant life and high levels of operator acceptance.
Tramp oil, biostability, corrosion and foaming characteristics were all improved compared to other fluids.
Also, because Hysol AM is extremely effective in resisting the bacteria and fungi that cause rancidity it is very clean in operation, has low odour levels, leaves no residues, and prevents staining of sensitive magnesium and aluminium alloys.
It also sets new standards in safety and cleanliness by reducing the risk of hydrogen evolution associated with machining magnesium alloys, and is chlorine and boron free.
A Castrol spokesman says the new standards of performance achieved by Hysol AM can deliver improved productivity and cost savings, whilst reducing the number of metalworking fluids that manufacturing companies need to buy and store.
