Matched funding programme offers West Midlands subcontractors the chance to exhibit at the Subcon 2004 exhibition for half of the usual cost.

Subcon builds business for gear making
Mini Gears pecialises in the manufacture of all kinds of gears and racks and is currently expanding its ground gears section for high-speed applications.
The regional development agency, Advantage West Midlands, in partnership with Accelerate and Business Link Black Country, is offering qualifying subcontracting companies with up to 400 employees a subsidy of 50% on stand space at the show.
Funded by Advantage West Midlands and the European Regional Development Fund, Accelerate is managed by Birmingham Chamber of Commerce.
Its role is to provide strategic and financial support to help companies drive their own development.
This can either be through business development and capital equipment grants, delivered via the six regional Business Links or through collaborative programmes.
Companies, exhibiting as part of this initiative, will benefit from being part of a group stand as well as receiving practical advice and support before, during and after the exhibition.
Pauline Pinney of Advantage West Midlands says: "For many companies, finding the time and money to focus on sales and marketing activities can be a problem.
Participating in this event can be an effective way to make contact with potential new customers and can lead to significant new business opportunities." Rachel Eade, Accelerate Programme Manager, agrees: "We will enable companies to exhibit or take part in an effective, integrated way.
One of our requirements for supporting companies at Subcon is to help them to do it professionally.
We will be bringing in experts and holding workshops to help them get the most benefit from this and future events." Geoff Lancaster of Business Link Black Country adds: "We fully support this initiative.
We have a lot of subcontractors in The Black Country and will be encouraging them to take part." The eligibility for subsidised stand space at Subcon extends to any engineering subcontractor with up to 400 employees in Birmingham, The Black Country, Coventry, and Stoke on Trent, as well as the counties of Staffordshire, Shropshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire.
