A range of high specification, competitively priced turning machines include short and long-bed versions with Y-axis, sub-spindle and driven tooling.

The Spanish manufacturer CMZ is to launch a range of high-specification, competitively priced turning machines at the UK's MACH 2008 machine tool exhibition The CMZ TC range includes 45 models, including short and long-bed versions with Y-axis, sub-spindle and driven tooling, in chuck sizes from 150mm up to 500mm

The philosophy of the Bilbao-based company is to offer affordable quality, building the highest possible specification machines to the best possible prices.

It keeps costs down by using common elements throughout the range, but uses the same bearings, drives, spindles and controls as you would expect to find on a quality Japanese machine.

* Cast iron structure - all the machines feature a cast iron bed for rigidity, which is machined, heat treated and ground in house, and include box-section guide-ways.

The strength and rigidity of the machines mean they can cope with the toughest materials and heavy duty cycles, said CMZ.

All the models include integral oil-cooled spindle motors on both main and sub-spindles - with spindle power up to 48kW and powerful 17kW driven tooling.

On long-bed machines there is a choice of steadies, up to a full ball-screw axis, and a gantry version will allow full unmanned production from billet or bar.

* Large Y-axis movement - the TC machines have been designed to accommodate a particularly large Y-axis movement of 140mm - from -60mm to +80mm - with big guide-ways and a raised centre height.

This has also allowed the use of a larger turret disk, so that all but the very largest machines have 16 stations, all with driven tooling.

A VDI turret option is offered at no extra charge and all tooling is interchangeable with CMZ's existing TL range of machines.

The company now has 150 machines in the UK, 50 of them installed in the past two years, and offers options to suit any company from a small subcontractor to a large OEM.

The CMZ stand at MACH will feature a total of seven machines.

They will include two from the TC range as well as models from its proven and popular TB and TL ranges.

* CMZ UK at MACH 2008, NEC, Birmingham, UK, April 21-25, Hall 5, Stand 5379.
