Mill-turning centre has three distinct modules all in one machine; a turning unit with horizontal axis, a turning unit with vertical axis and a multi-purpose head with a swivelling B axis.

CNC Machine Tools, exclusive UK distributors for the Italian Eikon range of innovative high productivity CNC machining centres, are proud to announce the UK launch of the very latest top of the range Eikon MTX5 Integrated CNC Milling - Turning Centre, at the forthcoming MACH 2004 Exhibition The MTX5 has been designed for the complete production of complex and sophisticated components, which require very high accuracy turning, mill - turning and machining

The MTX5 is applicable to both large and small companies.

For smaller companies it combines the capabilities of separate machines into a single, smaller footprint, while for larger companies it can also support any high volume production needs.

The MTX5 incorporates three distinct modules all in one machine; a turning unit with horizontal axis, a turning unit with vertical axis and a multi-purpose head with a swivelling B axis.

By incorporating multiple machining operations into a single machine, manufacturers are much better able to respond to the increasing unpredictability of consumer demand.

This unpredictability in demand has driven the need for more manufacturing flexibility, smaller batch sizes and a significant reduction in stockholdings and associated costs.

By investing in the MTX5, manufacturers can significantly reduce their production costs on complex and sophisticated components, whilst at the same time increasing their competitiveness The MTX5 Compound is an original patented idea derived from the well-proven EIKON MV3 model.

It has been designed to carry out milling and vertical turning operations, on the right hand side of the work area utilising the multi-purpose b axis head with a 1050 x 550mm table within which is located a 400mm diameter - 30kW - 3,000rpm rotating chuck.

On the left hand side of the machine, turning and milling, with the multi-purpose head b axis head, is carried out with a 300mm diameter horizontal turning unit, which delivers 6,000 rpm through a 15 kW drive motor.

The multi-purpose head delivers 12,000rpm through a powerful 26kW drive motor and swivels with +/- 105 degree movement (continuous or 5 degree increments) The machine can be equipped with a partition which also allows pendulum machining, i.e "non stop" for milling and turning.

Loading of one side can be made during the production cycle of the other side of the machine.

Eliminating these loading/unloading idle times provides the user with maximum productivity.

The MTX5 is fitted with the very latest Fanuc 30i control.

The 30i can control up to 40 axes, 24 of them simultaneously, and is claimed as the world's highest number of axes on a single CNC controller.

The MTX5 has five axis as standard, however it is the requirement for it to operate as both a milling machine and a turning machine, where two channels of control are required, that calls for the use of the Fanuc 30i control.

The machine's sturdy structure guarantees dynamic rigidity and stability, even under heavy working conditions, both in milling and turning.

The moving column design guarantees maximum accuracy in all work conditions, thanks to the precise construction and excellent support over the entire machining area.

High speed machining is available due to the rapid traverse rates of 40m/min over the whole working area.

Automatic tool change used for milling and turning, drilling and reaming is possible thanks to the single bi-directional rotating tool magazine with 30 positions as standard or an optional 111 positions.

A double arm changer and random selection carry out tool changing.

The design of the tool change magazine allows both turning and mill/drill holders to be accommodated at the same set up.

The MTX5 provides productivity and accuracy for the most complex milling-turning requirements.

It is an original and innovative solution for modern manufacturing and production applications.

"Before the MTX concept was developed, companies who had a complex and sophisticated part to make had to look for the right manufacturing solution for that part, which may have involved several machine tools", says Eddie Clapham, Sales Director, "But now regardless of the complexity of the part, with the MTX5, they have a single machine tool that will tackle and complete any component".

"Furthermore", says Clapham, "the machine can do all that sophisticated, large capacity mill-turn lathes can do, however the converse is not true - they cannot duplicate the MTX's capabilities, which makes it truly unique".

CNC Machine Tools, one of the UK's leading CNC machine tool Engineering Service, Backup and Support providers, are also planning to exhibit other machining centres in the Eikon range including pendulum machining and long bed machines, as well as their extensive range of Engineering and associated Financial and Insurance based services and products.
