Collaboration software speeds 'made-to-order' work
Collaboration software with engineering focus perfects 'made-to-order' products for a machinery company, personalising service and speeding delivery, with online design reviews.
The electrical segment boasts world wide leadership in electrical control, power distribution, uninterruptible power systems and industrial automation products and services.
"We streamline development significantly using Designer Modeling and its various add ons," said Wim Hoekstra, manager R and D Low Voltage Devices, Eaton Electric.
The software makes it easy to create, change, and communicate throughout our design cycle and beyond." OneSpace Designer Modeling is an essential part of CoCreate's lean product development philosophy.
Lean product development calls for technology that blends easily with existing production tools.
It also requires software to bring significantly less complexity and more value to design processes - even when others outside the main office share design responsibility.
Eaton co-designs with teams in the UK, China and Malaysia.
For example, recently two Malaysian designers worked at the Dutch facility for three months.
"They quickly learned Designer Modeling and quickly worked like seasoned professionals with the software," said Hoekstra.
CoCreate believes that ease of use comes from its unique architecture called Dynamic Modeling.
This history-free approach to CAD design eliminates the need for constraints, making it much quicker to learn than traditional 3D CAD software.
Designer Modeling also offers features like rich master models.
This encourages designers to add comments directly with the design file, helping maintain design intent wherever a model goes.
Designers at Eaton Electric already moved away from pure 3D modeling towards a productive 3D environment, using various modules for Designer Modeling, such as Sheet Metal, Surfacing, BOM Editor and more.
CoCreate's Sheet Metal, for example, allows designers to work with sheet metal parts and provides a broad range of dedicated commands and advisor technology to help avoid common manufacturing violations.
Using the Surfacing module, designers can accelerate the design of topological trimmed surfaces or complete topological solid models.
"These modules add considerable value to our design work," said Hoekstra.
"They not only accelerate designs but also help us to ensure that designs are right first time." Eaton Electric also uses CoCreate's data management tools.
Model Manager allows the company to load and store 3D designs and associated 2D drawings, use revision and state control, find all the different places a design is used in the company, and search the company's considerable database to find designs in seconds.
"This enables us to work with the same data concurrently, thus saving time and costs," said Hoekstra.
"Plus, leveraging existing components and designs in new projects will drive down overall costs, improve delivery times and increase quality." He added: "Sometimes you can lose all the benefits of working with remote teams with miscommunication and sloppy file handling.
Our software tools and the support of our reseller, CAD Services, provide the support we need to make the most of our global development environment." * About CoCreate - CoCreate develops third generation PLM software for companies that want to accelerate their business with lean product development, fast design creation, and efficient knowledge re-use.
CoCreate is also the world's No 1 provider of Dynamic Modeling technology, an approach to 3D product development that delivers unrivaled speed, flexibility and responsiveness to change throughout the design process, and is the key enabler for lean product development.
