Two cylindrical grinding machine developments offer precision universal grinding and a modular system that can combine conventional and high speed grinding processes.

At the recent EMO 2007 exhibition, the Spanish machine tool group, Danobat, showed the FG-600-B8 external cylindrical grinding machine for grinding concentric and eccentric forms Of modular build, it can be configured to carry out conventional and/or high speed grinding cycles

Danobat also showed its latest HG-72 universal cylindrical grinder equipped with a continuous rotary wheel head controlled by a high precision rotary encoder.

** FG-600-B8 external cylindrical grinding machine - flexibility and to meet demands for working to closer tolerances have resulted in the Danobat FG-600-B8, It has been designed to grind concentric diameters and eccentric forms.

In one clamping, it is possible to integrate conventional grinding cycles and high speed.

In a report to Manufacturingtalk, Danobat said that the machine is ideal for form grinding and for ultra high precision parts for the hydraulic industry, cams of different shapes, gear box parts, transmission shafts, etc.

The FG-600-B88 is assembled on a natural granite bed and includes hydrostatic slide ways, and linear motor on the X-axis, digital drives on the linear and rotary axes and integrated motors on the work head, and spindle.

The rotary wheel head (B Axis) is equipped with two spindles driven by integrated motors to grind at up to 120m/s using two 450mm diameter CBN wheels.

A Danobat manufactured electro spindle drives the work head, and includes a co-axial diamond disc creating a very compact arrangement and cycle time reduction.

Commercial in-process gauges and axial positioning heads ensure grinding tolerances and process capabilities.

The machine includes software with a library of shapes to grind a wide variety of parts and eccentric forms with simple programming.

The modular concept of the machine helps the integration of automatic loaders and the interlinking of different machines in one grinding cell.

* Machine features include the following.

* Distance between centres is 600mm.

* Height of centres is 150mm.

* Maximum weight held between centres is 80kg.

* Control system is Siemens 840D CNC.

** HG-72 Universal cylindrical grinder - latest Danobat HG-72 grinding machines are designed to provide the best grinding systems in the aerospace, power generation equipment, printing machine, maritime equipment and electric motor industries.

In its report to Manufacturingtalk, Danobat said that these sectors have the highest demand for precision and reliability associated with large part sizes.

The machine offers substantial improvements in the rigidity and stability and an ergonomic orientated design and an uncluttered working area.

The machine is equipped with a continuous rotary wheel head (B-axis) driven by a torque motor controlled by a high precision rotary encoder (Danobat patent).

It carries two external wheels of 610mm and 304mm diameter and an internal grinding spindle driven by electro spindles.

Different grinding wheel types, such as CBN, diamond, corundum and so on, can be used on the wheel head.

This configuration results in the HG-72 being a very versatile and fully universal machine for external, face, internal and external taper grinding operations, said Danobat.

Distance beteen centres is 3000mm and maximum workpiece grinding diameter is 640mm.

In addition, the machine has an absolute multi diameter measuring unit, Danobat MDM, with a measuring range from 10 to 300mm, An axial positioning probe automatically measures diameters, tapers, external lengths during and at the end of the grinding cycle produces a measuring report.

Danobat is a leading manufacturer of universal grinding systems for components ranging from 1.500 to 4.000mm, with diameters up to 640mm and weighing up to 1500kg.
