Food industry users seeking a cost-effective solution for right angle geared motors and reducers have two user-friendly and flexible options in the Series K helical bevel helical and Series C helical worm geared units from David Brown Engineering, a Textron Fluid and Power company Both units offer high load carrying capacity and reliability, enabling the user or original equipment manufacturer to choose the solution that most precisely fits their requirements

If capital cost and the ability to handle shock loads is crucial, the Series C worm geared units provide the answer with the inherent strength of the worm drive configuration.

However, if ultra efficient operation over long periods of constant running is the priority, the Series K units offer the natural solution by reducing the through-life cost of the drive.

Series C helical worm geared units are available in eight sizes 03 to 10 with ratio coverage of 8:1 to 250:1 in double reduction and 60,000:1 in combined units.

The range accepts motor sizes in IEC Frames from 63 to 225, (NEMA frames from 56C to 326TC) and is dimensionally interchangeable with all major manufacturers.

Motors can be specified up to 45kW with a maximum output capacity of 10,000Nm.

Series K units are available in sizes 03 to 10 and 12.

The range accepts motor sizes in IEC Frames from 63 to 280, (NEMA frames from 56C to 405TC).

They offer ratios from 5/1 to 100/1 in double reduction form and in combined unit form up to 20,000/1.

Motors can be specified up to 90kW giving a maximum output torque of 12,300Nm.

Both ranges offer the advantages of David Brown's patented motor adaptor which is uniquely suited for the food industry because it's integral oil seal provides dry connection between motor and gearbox, allowing easy removal of the motor without the need to drain the oil.

Double oil seals on input or output shafts are also optional, and sizes 03 and 04 are lubricated for life.

The patented motor connection also enables Series K and C units to accept standard NEMA and IEC flange mounted electric motors without the need for cumbersome interface connectors or expensive modifications.

Moreover, the adaptor prolongs the life of the motor through two large adaptor bearings which ensure the gearbox does not rely on the motor bearing.

Glass-filled nylon/carbon fibre bushing prevents fretting corrosion enabling easy removal and the high accuracy of mating components contributes to class-leading low noise levels.

Both ranges are dimensionally interchangeable with all major European manufacturers and all variations can be supplied either motorized or with input shaft assemblies.

Braked gearmotors are available as standard.

Revolutionary modular design - the revolutionary modular design of all the units in the David Brown 2004 family of Series C and K geared motors has been developed with the aim of reducing manufacturing and repair costs and, most importantly, maximising product availability.

Employing a "kit" principle, sub-assemblies are produced, packed and stored individually.

As orders are received, the kits required to meet customer's gear unit specification are taken from stock and assembled in a short time for shipment.

A minimum number of kits are required for use throughout the family of products, reducing inventory costs and optimizing availability.

The modular kit system offers advantages to distributors, stockists and larger users by reducing their inventory with a rationalized stock of kits.

It allows instant replacement of a range of units and aims to reduce expensive down time to an absolute minimum.
