An exciting new microscope, the Trekker, has just been launched in the UK priced at £49.99 the Trekker achieves a quantum leap in compact microscope design.Trekker is fun to use and the inspired patented design has resulted in an extremely attractive object: beautifully detailed but also a robust precision instrument which can be used in tough situations The small size, just 100mm in diameter and 25mm thick, uses a precision folded optical system which gives amazingly clear and sharp images, lit by an ingenious LED ring-light system powered by an internal battery giving over 100 hours of continuous use

trekker has a magnification of x35 and the removable eyepiece gives a further option of x10.
The design team carried out extensive market research before choosing these magnifications.
The power of x35 is regarded as the perfect magnification for a portable microscope because it covers a broad range of general uses - powerful enough to see things in great detail, but not so powerful that you lose the sense of what you are looking at.
That's extremely important for children, and education is one of the major markets for the Trekker.
Trekker can view transparent, solid, and water borne objects and microscope slides.
Objects are placed on the top case and viewed through the side-mounted eyepiece.
A precision thumb-wheel on the underside focuses the image and the optical design gives good depth of field and a focus range of up to 17mm above the top case - a very useful feature when viewing irregularly shaped objects like insects and small components.
trekker is available now and comes attractively packaged with a soft carry case, magnetic specimen holder, sample slides and multi-lingual instructions.
A hard foam-lined case is an optional extra.
An SLR camera adaptor and a digital PC connector will be available in 2005.
