File generation added to translation service
Delcam has added the ability to generate files in the CATIA V5 format from all major CAD file types to its PS-Exchange on-line data translation service.
On-line CAD data translation service enhanced
Delcam has enhanced its PS-Exchange on-line data translation service with automatic file fixing to its STL output option to ensure that high quality prototypes in CAD generate STL files .
The new version also allows translation of AutoCAD DXF and DWG files for the first time.
"We have always offered a guarantee on the translation quality from PS-Exchange and less than one per cent of users have claimed refunds for unsuccessful or incomplete translations," reported Tim Hughes, Delcam's Development Director with responsibility for PS-Exchange.
"Even so, we are sure that more people will want to try the service now that they can see what they are getting before making any commitment." Delcam launched PS-Exchange in 1999 when it was the first on-line translation service to use a pay-per-use voucher-based payment system.
This gives two immediate advantages over other translation services.
Firstly, since the translation software is stored on the user's own computer, the system is completely secure, with no chance of sensitive information being intercepted or mailed to an incorrect address.
Secondly, this approach gives much faster results since only a short authorisation code is transferred over the web, not the complete CAD model.
Once the authorisation has been obtained, the translation itself should never take more than a few minutes.
The full range of options for input into PS-Exchange is now AutoCAD DXF and DWG, CATIA, Pro/Engineer, SDRC, Unigraphics, SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Cimatron, Parasolid XT, IGES, VDA and STEP, while files can be exported as IGES, Parasolid XT, STEP or STL, or as Delcam's own DGK format.
