PartMaker CAM programs mill-turn centres
Delcam has launched the latest version of its PartMaker family of software, which now offers programming of turn-mill equipment and Swiss-type automatic lathes.
Each year, CIMdata publishes its NC Software and Related Services Market Assessment and has recently issued its 2005 report.
This shows that, in 2004, Delcam maintained its steady growth with end-users sales of $79.7 million, while PTC's end-user sales stayed at $91.8 million.
The latter figure did, at least, halt the decline in its CAM sales that PTC has seen since being ranked the leading vendor in 2001 with end-user sales of $139.2 million.

CAD/CAM software speeds prototype lead-times
A US plastics and metal product prototyping company reported that use of Delcam's PowerSHAPE design software and the PowerMILL CAM system has reduced its delivery times by 50%.
For 2005, CIMdata is predicting that Delcam will close the gap significantly on PTC.
Although PTC is predicted to achieve end-user sales of $97.8 million and so see its first growth in CAM revenues for several years, Delcam is expected to show much faster growth and achieve end-user sales of $93.9 million.
"CIMdata has predicted a better year for PTC in 2005 after several years of decline in its CAM business," said Humphreys.
"However, even if the company does achieve this turnaround, we expect to be very close to its level of CAM sales this year".
" We would then only need to achieve modest further growth to overtake the company in 2006." Delcam's predicted 2005 growth will be partly the result of increased sales of its established Power Solution software and partly achieved through its recent addition of the FeatureCAM range of software.
"Both software ranges achieved record sales in 2004," stated Humphreys.
"I am confident that this growth will continue in the coming years." "With our increased investment in product development, together with the addition of the FeatureCAM team in Salt Lake City, we now employ close to 100 developers," added Humphreys.
"This increased number will ensure that both our software ranges continue to be the leaders in their respective areas." "In addition, we are currently broadening the range of applications for our software, from our traditional area in the manufacture of injection moulding tools," said Humphreys.
"We are now having more success in other areas of toolmaking, especially press tools and patternmaking, and also seeing more sales for the production machining of complex shapes, such as those found in the aerospace and autosport industries".
