Five-axis CAM has powerful tool-axis
editing

CAM 5-axis machining software development has a powerful tool-axis editing function that selects any region of a toolpath and redefine the tool-axis vectors within that region.

Delcam will launch the latest version of its PowerMILL CAM system, with additional options for five-axis machining, at the UK's TCT event It will feature enhancements and speed-ups throughout the program

There is improved memory management that will give significantly faster calculation times, especially for large, complex components and for smaller, highly-detailed models.

* Powerful 5-axis tool-axis editing option - a powerful tool-axis editing function selects any region of a toolpath and redefines the tool-axis vectors within that region.

The ability to use different options in different sections of the toolpath will enable users to optimise cutting conditions, to give faster machining, and to avoid any sudden machine tool movements that could generate a poor surface finish on the workpiece.

* Faster 5-axis programming - automated functionality has been added for much faster programming of the 5-axis machining of BLISKs (blade integrated discs), blades and impellers.

Typically, the new options will allow even complex BLISKs and impellers to be programmed in around 30 min.

Before it took many programmer's hours to compile such programs.

* Swarf machining - an option forces the tool paths to follow the surface internal lines where possible.

This approach can give smoother motion of the machine tool and more precise control of the cutting conditions.

* Simulation and program verification - it is now possible to rotate the ViewMILL machining model during and after the simulation.

In addition, cutting tool simulation and machine tool verification can now be controlled from a single toolbar, thanks to Delcam's streamlining of the user interface. Request a free brochure from Delcam ...
