Software decreases 'time-to-market'
DELMIA'S Process Engineering is a radically different manufacturing engineering portfolio of modules utilising the most current methodologies within an integrated IT environment.
The new release is a process planning solution for the creation, validation and documentation of the detailed manufacturing processes for large complex assemblies such as aircraft, naval ships and submarines, and cars.
DPM V5R5 is a geometry based solution with the ability to link and view the product data from any major CAD system, author and view the assembly sequences and processes and link each process step to the manufacturing resources utilising a single, unified user interface.
The assembly process and links to the product and resource data are stored in The Delmia Manufacturing Hub, a shared database of Product, Process and Resource (PPR) information.

Simulation used in quest for best process
Late last year, Corus Engineering Steels approached AMTRI to create the optimum manufacturing methods, machine tools and operational sequences to produce automotive axles.
It contains a library of process "best practices" to facilitate reuse and a catalogue of the manufacturing resources that can be assigned to each process step with a mouse click.
The value of this process library is that it contains constraints, precedence and actual performance data that are based on previous experiences.
The process planner and manufacturing engineers can begin to develop the sequence of operations before the product design is complete, reusing best practices whenever possible, and assigning resources such as tooling, fixtures and labour to each process step, determining throughput and estimating cost.
As the product geometry becomes available, it is linked to each process step, so the combination of product, process and resources can be validated.
In this way, the process planner can have a significant impact on the product design in a concurrent engineering environment.
This ability to evaluate the design for assembly, best practices and existing tooling, early in the process reduces product cost and helps propel products to market faster.
Philippe Charles, CEO of Delmia, explained:"V5R5 supports the detailed planning of the assembly process and provides the shop floor instructions and documentation, making sure that it is always up-to-date with the latest engineering changes to product and process data." This release includes many enhancements, such as a collision free path planner, the integration of joint motion features, a dimension and tolerance review, and a new process verification capability for analysing the process during each step of the production.
V5R5 provides a high level of integration with the CATIA/DELMIA /ENOVIA family of solutions for digital product creation, digital manufacturing and product lifecycle management.
It is also integrated through Delmia's MultiCAx Plugins, with Unigraphics Solutions, SDRC and Pro/ENGINEER.
Delmia V5R5 is available worldwide on the Windows NT and UNIX platforms.
Delmia Corp develops e-business solutions for manufacturing by implementing a process centric solution to plan, define, monitor and control production systems from single device workcell, production line, factory material flow to extended enterprise production flow.
Delmia serves industry segments where continuous transformation and optimisation of the manufacturing processes are critical such as: Automotive, Aerospace, Fabrication and Assembly, Electrical and Electronics, Consumer Goods, Plant and Shipbuilding.
Delmia solutions are interoperable with major CAD, PDM and ERP systems.
