Shipyard simultated to reduce
construction costs
The South Korean Digital Shipbuilding Innovation Center will be modelling a digital shipyard to determine means for reducing the construction costs of U S Navy warships and commercial ships.
Delmia has announced that the DSIC (Digital Shipbuilding Innovation Center), Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea has been awarded research funding by the U S Navy's Office of Naval Research (ONR) DSIC was founded in 2001 with the support of DELMIA Corp

Software decreases 'time-to-market'
DELMIA'S Process Engineering is a radically different manufacturing engineering portfolio of modules utilising the most current methodologies within an integrated IT environment.
Delmia software, together with CATIA and as part of the global Dassault Systemes' 3D PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) offering, will be used in DSIC to model a digital shipyard.
Their focus will be to determine means for reducing the construction costs of U S Navy warships and commercial ships.
This project, entitled "Simulation-based tools to support decision making in industrial policy, ship acquisition, shipyard planning and ship production process improvement", will be performed in collaboration with the University of Michigan.
Prof.
Jong Gye Shin, Principal Investigator of the research and Head of DSIC, explained, "Ships are unique products.
Shipbuilding involves complex resources and processes.
Thus, for the efficient modeling of PPR (Product, Process, and Resource) data of a shipyard, we need a very powerful tool to achieve our goal.
Delmia provides such fine tools like IGRIP, QUEST, and ERGO." 3D PLM enables customers to optimize their business processes for engineering, manufacturing, maintenance and support, by utilizing collaborative workspaces to share a common product, process and resource (PPR) model.
With PPR, companies can capture, share and reuse knowledge all along the product lifecycle.
The open CAA V5 (Component Application Architecture) allows extension and integration of this solution within multiple enterprise environments.
