Cutting miniature/micro-product production costs

A Dept of Design, Manufacture and Engineering Manag product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Jan 16, 2006

Technologies and systems are being developed for mass production of miniature and micro-products to cut down manufacturing costs by approximately 40 to 80%.

Department of Design, Manufacture and Engineering Management of the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow is coordinating a four-year European research and development project to develop an integrated manufacturing facility for the mass-manufacture of miniature and micro-products (MASMICRO Project).

Launched in July 2004, MASMICRO is an Integrated Project supported by the European Commission under the Framework Programme 6 (FP6).

It involves a consortium composed of 36 partners from 13 EU countries including 18 industries.

The total budget of the project is over 21 million euros.

Technologies and systems being developed will bring new technological and organisational measures for mass production of miniature and micro-products.

The target is to cut down manufacturing costs by approximately 40 to 80%, depending on component-forms to be produced.

To be kept updated on the progress of MASMICRO, from now on, companies can subscribe free of charge to the newsletter, receive invitations to attend demonstrations or simply register their interest on www.masmicro.net.
