Deutsch's family of double density connectors for autosport design engineers brings benefits of space and weight, both highly prized on the modern racing car.

Deutsch, a provider of interconnection solutions, has extended its family of double density connectors for autosport design engineers bringing benefits of space and weight, both highly prized on the modern racing car The launch of the 8-11 and 10-23 double density connectors completes the range, which also includes the 14-64, 12-41 and 06-09 double density Autosport connectors, all of which are optimised for the AWG24 to AWG30 gauge wire

The benefit of the double density range is that the designers can use a connector that is up two shell-sizes smaller than the standard range, reducing the size and weight of the harness.

All Deutsch double density connectors operate at temperatures from -55C to +175C and are rated to IP67 for water immersion to 1 metre for a minimum of 30 minutes without showing any damage when exposed to most fluids used in most autosport applications.

They also feature the same locking system for the gold-plated copper alloy contacts to carry the maximum 3A of current and a current leakage of less than 2mA at 1000VC.

The entire family of Deutsch double density connectors comes with a conductive black zinc cover to allow any shielding on the cabling to be continued through the connector.

There is also an optional RoHS compliant nickel finish.

David Watters, Deutsch's Head of Autosport, said: "Our recently introduced double density connector range, that goes from a 5-pin variant in our Autosport Ultra connector, right through to the 14-64, which helps incorporate the electronics and reduces the actual box size, means that we are helping to support the industry in the drive for smaller wire size.

So our high density range, which now starts at wire size AWG24, is ideally positioned for the 26 to 30 AWG wire size which are now becoming the norm in the industry." Deutsch is also introducing the same double density technology for a range of military and aerospace connectors.

This demonstrates the importance of the Autosport industry in taking the lead for new technologies.
