Dome-style containers suit 'ready to
roast'

Offering major presentation, cooking and handling benefits, innovative dome-style containers have proved an ideal packaging medium for fresh and frozen 'Ready to Roast' products.

D2 Europack is supplying its complete Smoothsolution package to Centrally Packed Meats (CPM) The convenience food packaging specialist is providing its Smoothpack smoothwall aluminium foil trays; Smoothpeel lidding film; and award-winning Smoothdome dome-shaped lids for the launch of the contract packer's range of ready to cook meals - aimed at supermarket retailers and food service markets

In addition, D2 Europack has recently installed the first ULMA Scorpius 600 tray sealer with patented dome lid sealing facility at CPM's 30,000ft2 plant in Manchester.

The advanced machine is handling standard foil trays and lids for a 'Ready to Grill' range, plus heat sealing dome-style containers for 'Ready to Roast' meat cuts and whole poultry.

Offering major presentation, cooking and handling benefits, D2 Europack's innovative dome-style containers have proved the ideal packaging medium for CPM's new, fresh and frozen Ready to Roast meat joints and whole poultry, including rolled pork leg, large beef topside and whole and half lamb leg.

Standard pack designs offer limitations in terms of depth and head space, however, the dome-shaped lid provides the perfect solution by increasing the overall pack depth from 70mm to 130mm.

This accommodates traditional cuts and means the product sits above the rim of the aluminium foil tray for maximum on-shelf impact.

It also enhances and shortens the cooking process as convectional heat can circulate to the sides of the product.

In addition to supplying dome-shaped containers, D2 Europack is providing its newly launched 276 family of smoothwall aluminium foil containers for CPM's Ready to Grill range, which includes grill from fresh and grill from frozen meat products, complete with accompanying sauces.

These foil trays feature an integrated trivet base allowing excess liquid to drain away and air to circulate during cooking.

Both the dome and standard packs are heat sealed using a high performance ULMA Scorpius 600 tray sealer.

Part of D2 Europack's Smoothsolution package, the compact machine incorporates a purpose-designed, patented facility for heat sealing the dome lids directly to the aluminium foil tray.

The Roast and Grill from Fresh products are heat sealed using MAP for extended shelf life of up to eight days.

Ideally suited to food production environments, the hygienic, fully wash down ULMA Scorpius 600 tray sealer offers fast size changeover, touch screen controls, smart belt in feed for collating and centring of trays, plus top mounted servo drives for controlled acceleration and deceleration of the trays.

D2 Europack's transparent, high clarity dome-shaped lids are thermo formed from APET.
