Load cells warn of lifting rope load
Measuring the tension in lifting rope provides vital warnings when lifting equipment is approaching its capacity.
How to protect the operator from falling through the platform opening whilst the load is being landed? The usual method has been a barrier rope, chain or drop bar guarding the opening.
Which, when removed leaves the operator or anybody else exposed to falling through the opening.
This inherent danger has normally been addressed by providing the operator with a safety harness.
This supposes that the operator can be bothered to wear it and it does absolutely nothing to protect anyone else who might be at risk.
Now there is a better solution.
Commenting, Peter Wilmot, Dale Lifting and Handling's Preston Branch manager, said: The 'Hi-Gate' was originally developed to meet the needs of a customer involved in concrete manufacturing.
The client's safety officer was adamant that a fool-proof method of protecting personnel was required for the hoisting of materials up to a 15 metre high platform.
The low height clearance over the platform meant that an opening in the safety rail had to be exposed in order to bring through the hoist and its suspended load.
By installing the 'Hi-Gate' safety barrier system, a safe method of protecting everyone was assured.
The hoist landing area was totally enclosed by a tubular steel barrier fitted with pivoting gate bars.
Cleverly hinged, the platform edge gate automatically closes behind the load when the inner gate is opened by the operator.
The system has been further to developed suit differing situations using standard components and each gate is pre-assembled and tested prior to despatch.
The gate can be flat-packed on a pallet for transport.
