Having to use a laptop to transfer Germany-sourced programs for CNC machine tools, the Indian company's DNC cable kept failing until a solution was provided by a local company.

Wika Instruments is a leading manufacturing company in various instruments.

They use 16 CNC machines.

The CNC program development centre is in Germany.

They problem was as as follows.

They were using Laptop for file transfer.

Many times, the DNC cable had a problem.

Some CNC machines were having nine-pin connectors, while others have 25-pin connectors.

They were using different cables from the laptop to CNC.

The company decided to network all CNCs to their existing server.

Digitech Engineers, have given them a perfect solution.

All RS232 ports were converted in to Ethernet port.

Each CNC was then assigned a static IP address.

CAT-5 cable was used for connectivity to main server, through Ethernet HUB switch.

Digitech make WIN-COM Software was installed.

Now, all CNC operators are able to take desired program file, by issuing a simple command from their own CNC key board.

This command is in the form of G and M codes.

The proven files can be sent on server directly from CNC.

The back up is maintained on alternate day by their IT person.

CNC operator does not have to go to any computer or server.

He has a assigned folder on server, for his CNC.

Every task has become very simple.

It is easy to maintain.

And it is quick to alter any connection.

The saving in time was more than 20% compared to earlier system.
