Starter HMC competes with VMCs

A DMG (UK) product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team May 9, 2001

The Deckel Maho DMC 50 H horizontal machining centre, with a pallet size of 400mm, is an 'economical starter' for the machining of small to large batches of components normally produced in VMCs.

The new horizontal machining centre DMC 50 H, with a pallet size of 400mm, is a world class machine tool, says Deckel Maho.

No matter whether the application is in flexible serial production of small to large batches or in the area of individual production - the impressive technical features are convincing all around.

With a driving power of 20.4HP(40% duty cycle), and a motor spindle with 18.000rpm, the DMC 50 H sets new standards in its class.

The same rings true for rapid traverses of 50m/min and impressive acceleration rates of 7m/s2 in all axes and particularly for the sensational price/performance ratio.

With this model, the successful H-series was extended downwards.

Moreover, the DMC 50 H serves as an economical starter machine for all types of production - a position hitherto mainly held by simple vertical machines.

The DMC 50 H offers all the features of a horizontal center that are required by the flexible, highly efficient manufacturers of large and small series.

Moreover, it only requires little space - thanks to its compact construction.

A highly appreciated advantage in cramped shops and high volume industry with its existing production structures.

The sturdy moving column construction with closed column, powerful Y-carriage and the integrated spindle in a quill/ram design moreover guarantee high metal cutting forces and dynamics.

All series are fashioned with extremely narrow ribs and - if feasible - crafted in a rigid honeycomb design.

Oversized side walls provide the machine bed with additional support and facilitate installation in a tripod position without requiring a special foundation.

The unit is equipped with the proven disc tool holder with a 40 tool capacity.

Tool change-over is done in the pick-up procedure - with resulting chip-to-chip time of only 3.7 seconds.

The unit comes equipped with a NC rotary positioning table and can be positioned in increments of 1 degree.

As an additional option, a continously positioning NC rotary table as "real" B-axis is also available which measures the path directly with an impressive accuracy.

The integrated pallet changer facilitates work piece change-over times of a mere 6 seconds.

The universal horizontal machining center DMC 50 H is setting new standards in its class from the get-go.

Standards not only with regard to productivity but also when it comes to being compact and ergonomic.

The machine requires a mere 2,5 m2 for its footprint and the work piece can be easily accessed from the control panel in the work area without any "deviation".

It goes without saying that in spite of its generous basic equipment, Deckel Maho offers the DMC 50 H with a series of options to complement the range of applications.

Besides the afore-mentioned NC rotary table, Deckel Maho would like to stress the hydraulic clamping tools, internal coolant supply through the spindle, tool break control or in-process measuring via measuring feeler.

Deckel Maho has chosen the digital Sinumerik/Simodrive package from Siemens.

HMC features include travels of 560mm in the X and Y axis and 510mm in Z.

Pallet size is 400 x 400mm.

Spindle speeds are up to 18,000rpm and capacity is 15/10kW (40/100% duty cycle) kW.

Torque is 130/87Nm The tool magazine 40 tools and toolchange time is 3.7sec chip-to-chip.

Feed rates are up to 50,000m/min.
