Invest in new technology to survive

A DMG (UK) product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Jul 9, 2002

In the opinion of a UK representative of a German machine tool builder, the only way to increase manufacturing business in the UK is to increase productivity.

In the opinion of Richard Blake, MD of DMG (UK), the only way to increase manufacturing in the UK is to increase productivity.

And the best way to do that is to adopt high-tech solutions.

Analysis of the company's performance at MACH 2002 certainly confirms his sentiments are certainly shared.

As a direct result of its participation, the company has received orders totalling GBP 2.6m and all are for machines introduced in the last twelve months.

The largest single order totalling GBP 1.4m came from Rolls Royce, Derby which bought two DMC 125 FD millturn machines.

With an impressive torque rating of up to 3200Nm and a speed range of 500 rpm, this new model can easily accommodate large and bulky workpieces.

The CTX Series universal turning machines not only caught the eye of one Midlands-based company but also the eyes of Metalworking Production Award judges.

The CTX 420 linear was proclaimed the Best Metal Cutting Machine Tool - Turning at this year's Award ceremony.

And DMG's travelling column machine with linear drive technology - the DMF 220 - was also the subject of a further three orders.

The DMF linear series was 'Highly Commended' in the category, Best Metal Cutting Machine Tool - Prismatic.

Completing the order tally to date are two orders for another new model designed for high speed cutting and dry machining.

The gantry design of the DMC 65V, with double synchronised Y-axis drives and dual linear position feedback, ensures superior linear guiding of the axis regardless of spindle position.
