Believed to be the most stable machine in its 'compact' class, a horizontal machining centre is setting new standards of accuracy, surface quality and productivity.

Thanks to its innovative design and features the new DMC 55H duoBLOCK horizontal machining centre from DMG (UK) is setting new standards of accuracy, surface quality and productivity in the compact class Now in its third generation, the patented duoBLOCK design has allowed DMG to introduce a succession of world-class machining centres and the DMC 55H extends the overall capability of this series

Quite simply, the DMC 55H duoBLOCK is the most stable machine in its class.

And by comparison with its predecessor, the DMC 50H, this latest horizontal machining centre occupies 30% less space despite its larger machining chamber.

The DMC 55H duoBLOCK is optimised for the high demands of flexible batch production and takes pallet sizes up to 400mm x 400mm.

The rigidity and stability of this machine are fully exploited by a large but accessible 560mm x 600mm x 600mm machining chamber that allows high workpiece weights of 500kg.

Precise, dynamic response is provided along all axes allowing positioning accuracy to +/-3 micron and repeatability of +/-1 micron; glass scales are a standard feature.

A fast 12,000 rev/min motor spindle that reaches maximum speed after just 1.4s is fitted as standard, delivering 110Nm and 20kW; an 18,000 rev/min spindle is optional.

Further characteristics of this new horizontal machining centre are rapid traverses up to 80m/min., axes acceleration up to 1G and short chip-to-chip times as low as 2.8s.

Productivity is further enhanced by the machine's optimally designed pallet changer with servo drive.

This feature, which to save space is on the side of the machining chamber, operates at various speed profiles dependent on workpiece weight.

The machine can also be specified with the best tooling system for the job.

The standard model comes with a turret for 45 tools weighing up to 10kg and measuring up to 160mm in diameter and 400mm in length.

Alternatively the DMC 55H duoBLOCK may be specified with the new high capacity vertical magazine with fast changer that has proved its productivity on the larger DMG horizontal series.

Holding a maximum of 180 tools, this magazine accommodates tools up to 12kg in weight with dimensions of 450mm x 160mm.

As this machine is designed for high productivity it is exceptionally efficient at clearing swarf in dry machining or minimal lube applications.

For this purpose, the DMC 55H duoBLOCK features steep Z-axis covers in the machining chamber and a powerful chip conveyor that allows the swarf to be ejected to the left or right as the application requires.

This option gives greater design freedom for further automation, for example, when the DMC 55H duoBLOCK is fitted with facilities such as a circular pallet storage system or robotic loading and unloading.

In addition to the high-end Siemens SolutionLine control, the DMC 55H duoBLOCK may also be specified with the Heidenhain iTNC 530, the first of the DMG horizontal machining centres to offer this option.
