Horizontal machining centre has high torque

Equipped with a 20kW, 12,000 rev/min spindle, a compact horizontal machining centre develops some 110Nm of torque for high metal removal rates in difficult to machine materials.

The Deckel Maho DMC 55H duoBLOCK horizontal machining centre (HMC) to be shown at the UK's MACH 2008 machine tool exhibition, is the most compact in a three machine range.

The HMC has a 400mm pallet size, an X-axis of 560mm and Y- and Z-axis strokes of 600mm.

The 20kW, 12,000 revsmin (18,000 rev/min option) spindle HMC develops some 110Nm of torque to enable high metal removal rates in often difficult to machine materials, said DMG (UK).

An important factor in the development of the DMC 55H machine is the design of guarding giving an ultra-modern theme with the added factor of excellent access through an 800mm door width.

To complement the access to the working area, full visibility is achieved through the scratch-proof, flush guarding of reinforced shatterproof plastics, making operation and setting far easier than normally found on comparable machines of this type, claimed DMG.

Rapid traverse rates are exceedingly quick at 60m/min and a 45 pocket vertical chain magazine with double gripper provides a 2.8s chip-to-chip time.

In addition, chain magazines with 40 to 180 pockets can be specified as an option.

Also, to ensure the minimum error on positioning, direct linear scales are included in the specification adding to the versatility and precision capability of the machine under production conditions.

Control system used is the Heidenhain iTNC530 or Siemens 840D solutionline.

Both CNCs have DMG ERGOline 19in screen display, additional DMG SOFTkeys and the DMG SMARTkey transponder.

These features enable personalised user authorisation as well as the safe selection of operating modes.

DMG LIGHTline is also included to indicate operational status of the machine that can be clearly viewed across the upper ridge of the machine guarding.
