Project management framework used by government
DSDM has been used in a large government department to implement a business change lifecycle, integrating existing approaches to project management, programme management and risk management.
Atern is extremely flexible and is a combination of practical experience, common sense and project management best practice.
It can be used in almost any environment, either on its own or in combination with other techniques, to ensure that projects meet the business requirements.
To achieve this it uses tried and tested ways of involving business end-users in the project alongside constant assessment of progress and changes to essential requirements.
A flexible lifecycle model and proven techniques form the basis of Atern's approach.
Together with clearly defined team roles and an arbitration mechanism for deciding what gets done, and when, this makes it a powerful and agile delivery mechanism.
Whether a deliverable is software, improved productivity or a move to a different business model, Atern can be used to manage the project, will cope with short-notice changes to requirements - and still deliver on time and in budget.
* About Atern - Atern is an independent project delivery framework based on best practice, common-sense and practical experience.
It serves the real and immediate needs of modern business by guaranteeing delivery on a precise date under pressure from tight timescales.
Mechanisms within the framework assist with budget control and its agile nature makes it possible to cope with rapid change and complex situations.
* About DSDM - the DSDM Consortium, based in the UK, is a not for profit organisation which administers and licences the delivery framework in order to protect the intellectual property rights.
The collegiate model ensures that specialists from many different fields continue to contribute to the evolution of the framework.
