Agile conference speaker is Alliance board member
Mike Griffiths, an Agile Times Editor and frequent contributor to Agile and project management forums, has been announced as a speaker at the Agile Business Conference.
With so many potential applications in mind, the Atern Pocketbook has been designed to offer a clear introduction to project delivery for all readers.
Atern's eight underlying principles are described explaining the reasoning behind them and what Atern teams should do to fulfil each principle.
The life-cycle model used by Atern is then introduced to show the different phases a project passes through, how this can be adapted for different types of project and how projects should be controlled.
A section on Key Techniques used to implement the principles introduces iterative development, timeboxing, prioritisation, facilitated workshops and modelling.
Using these techniques it is possible for project work to be managed in such a way that delivering on time and in budget becomes standard practice.
Team organisation is explained and each role is described together with its associated responsibilities.
Team members have clearly defined roles which ensure that all relevant viewpoints are considered and, importantly, that there is both business and technical input.
Outputs from an Atern project are all called products and a final section outlines all possible products which may be encountered.
Some refer directly to items delivered to end-users, but the rest are the essential controls, standards, documentation and training needed to support any successful project.
Atern is flexible and agile as it is based on good communication and the project team decides which products are needed to meet the strategic business goals.
The Atern Pocketbook can be either read 'front-to-back' or dipped into for reference purposes by manager and team members.
In-depth information, resources and case studies about Atern are available at the DSDM Web site.
Here, details can also be found of a special introductory offer for the Pocketbook.
