ACR Logistics will take responsibility for a wide range of corrugated packaging stock, ensuring that it is stored, prepared and delivered on time to D S Smith's customers in Scotland, England and Ireland.
According to Paul McKie, financial controller at D S Smith: "ACR Logistics was awarded the contract extension due to its proven track record and experience gained in the packaging sector.
Its ability to maintain high levels of service and reliability in a competitive sector where the cost per pallet is key was central to our decision." Commenting on the new contract, Glenn Lindfield, managing director of ACR Logistics, said: "ACR Logistics will continue to add value to D S Smith through its people, transport and warehouse management skills.
We have already delivered high levels of warehouse productivity and fleet performance, which have reduced operating costs in the process and we will create further value by combining the new product volume in to the existing solution." D S Smith and ACR Logistics will work together as a team to ensure that the challenge of getting the new consolidated contract up and running within very short timescales will be met.
That will involve transferring in stock, re-aligning fleet plans and recruiting and training additional staff.
The key measurements of success for ACR Logistics will be the continued delivery of efficient stock control and pre-empting potential issues to ensure a continued distribution operation.
Thirty-two ACR Logistics' staff will be dedicated to the contract working across three shifts to ensure 24-hour cover for five days a week.
