Unique retail ready pack for Pilgrim's
Choice
Pilgrims Choice, the UKs second largest cheddar brand, has developed a new retail ready pack which is unique to the dairy sector and likely to be taken up widely by other types of product.
The 'R.D.P' (Retail Display Pack), designed and manufactured by DS Smith Packaging at Launceston, is remarkably quick and easy to use in store The top of the pack can be removed literally in a second to form an attractive display case

Design Director at Launceston, Roger Wonnacott explains: "The tearing mechanism is quite complex in terms of manufacturing, but avoids one of the pitfalls often associated with perforations".
"Because the new pack restricts the perforations to the top of the box, it has totally eliminated the problem of unsightly tears on the front and side of the pack which worries some retailers." Packer fillers in a number of industries will appreciate the significance of this new development as adoption of the one piece design requires only minor changes to existing packaging machinery.
According to John Boseley, Procurement Manager at North Downs Dairy "We have worked very hard with Launceston on this project".
"After looking at various options we found a perfect solution: it is extremely strong, performing in trials even better than our previous brown transit case; it is extremely easy to convert and, using flexo pre print, allows us to reflect our high quality brand image through outstanding graphics." Launched in the Autumn, and now available in most leading retailers including Tesco, Somerfield, Morrisons and Sainsbury's, the new Pilgrims Choice pack looks set to help the GBP57 million brand continue its strong growth of 16% year on year1.
