PVC compounding market leaders Doeflex Vinyl has just taken delivery of a new Dustcheck solution that has seen operating noise levels drop and effective use made of internal space The innovative Dustcheck 328 double-wing filter is more effective than other filtration solutions, whilst proving very quiet and efficient in operation

Doeflex is continually expanding its production capability.

One of its most recent additions is a new compounding facility for the manufacture of PVC powder and pellets.

"We're an unusual company," says Ken Jones, Works Engineer.

"Many companies prefer to mount their dust extraction units outside their premises - the land is cheaper.

But we're tight for space outside our factory, and we needed a filtration solution that could be fitted internally, and still not drive us mad with the noise of it." The production line itself involved extraction from FIBC bag hoppers, sack-tipping stations, heater and cooler mixers, cooling hoppers and finished material hoppers.

"There's a large amount of dust to be processed," comments Ken.

"The Wing 328 seemed to have the features that we needed." Dustcheck's Wing 328 is one of the company's largest double-wing filter units.

Being a cartridge solution, the unit is very compact compared to equivalent bag type alternatives, offering savings of up to 50% in footprint area.

In providing a filter solution, Dustcheck Sales Manager Pete Dawson had to be very aware of his customers' requirements.

"Doeflex were very specific.

The unit had to be low noise, capable of operating over long periods and low-maintenance.

The unique wing cleaning system is much more effective than traditional venturi type reverse jet cleaning systems.

It utilises a rotating cleaning 'wing' coupled to an integral damper plate, which isolates the filter cartridge against process air flow during cleaning, thereby allowing true 'off-line' cleaning.

This gives much better product release characteristics and reduced chance of product re-entrainment.

The rotating wing gives a very effective filter 'rinsing' action ensuring superior cleaning and sustained lower filter differential pressures.

This leads to longer filter life and lower maintenance.

Operating at lower air pressures than traditional reverse-jet systems, the wing cleaning is also much quieter in operation".

Of specific benefit to Doeflex, was the 328's use of Dustcheck's TI07 anti-static PTFE membrane filter media.

"Traditional filter media's might not always have worked in Doeflex's environment, due to the high level of ultrafines in the particulate.

The Wing 328 suited Doeflex in terms of its compactness, high efficiency and low operating noise levels," concludes Pete Dawson.

Different bin discharge arrangements, explosion relief, access platforms and weatherproof executions are available to suit specific requirements.

The units can be manufactured in both painted carbon steel and stainless steel depending on system requirements and different surface finish requirements can also be accommodated.

Dustcheck also have the facility to design and build complete turn-key installations if required.
