UK firms urged to develop more new
products
A UK government's Department of Trade and Industry report is urging manufacturers to invest in new product development in order to remain competitive globally.
A new report from the UK government's Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) is urging manufacturing companies to invest in new product development in order to remain competitive globally The report, issued in partnership with the Manufacturing Foundation and British Chambers of Commerce, is based upon visits to a number of manufacturing businesses throughout the UK and has four recommendations

4 - Take advantage of external resources - use the public resources available for product development activity including information, advice and funding.
Expand your efforts for creating and developing capacity for product development into the supply chain.
David Wright of the DTI Manufacturing Advisory Service said: "This report provides advice for manufacturing SMEs and business support agencies on how to achieve new product development, as well as highlighting the need for a more holistic, risk-managed, and process-orientated approach." He said: "While a great deal has been written about the importance of innovation for the UK's manufacturing industry and strides have been made, we must continue to increase the amount of new product development happening within the sector.".
