Engineering analysis devolves onto the design engineer, allowing manufacturers to deploy their high-level analysts more wisely

Desktop Engineering (DE), the leading monthly magazine in the MCAD/CAM/CAE market, continues its deeper exploration into the underpinnings of the engineering analysis market in the upcoming March issue of Elements of Analysis, its 6th edition of the popular editorial supplement The March issue of Elements of Analysis will examine how the combination of new engineering analysis technologies, increased computing horsepower, and steep declines in software and hardware prices has enabled SMB manufacturers to venture into facets of analysis that were once beyond their capabilities

This transition means SMB manufacturers now have access to new markets that had formerly been too costly or too complex for them to address, and enables them to compete globally with larger companies with greater resources.

"The role of the design engineer has changed," said Anthony J Lockwood, Editorial Director of DE.

"Pressures to shorten product design cycles and time-to-market, coupled with the convergence of engineering technologies, now require design engineers to absorb many of the responsibilities of high-level analysis".

"How do they and SMB manufacturers cope with that pressure? That's where Elements of Analysis comes in".

"We're going to help them succeed." Manufacturers face continuing pressure to shorten time between a product's initial concept to manufacture, a process they recognize can be optimized without compromising innovation through the integration of engineering analysis tools and technologies with design.

In its 2005 CAE Study, Daratech found that 60% of manufacturers plan to increase their investment in CAE technology in 2006 as a result of a 30% increase in the average number of product design alternatives they could investigate using CAE technology.

With more engineering analysis devolving onto the design engineer, manufacturers can deploy their high-level analysts more wisely.

"The devolution of the analysis function up front into the design function frees the high-level analysts to do more complex analyses," noted Lockwood.

"Now, couple this with high-performance computing, grids, and cluster solutions, and you have a new deal - a new world for SMB manufacturers." "Elements of Analysis is the only publication that covers analysis tools - FEA, CFD, modeling, simulation, visualization, and the like - as an integral, natural part of the design through manufacture process and not some ivory-tower, Druid-class alchemy," said Lockwood.

"We provide design engineers and engineering managers in enterprise OEMs and SMB manufacturers with the information they need to know to make informed purchasing, new technology, and management strategy decisions to survive and succeed in our fast-changing world." The March 2006 edition of Elements of Analysis will be polybagged with the March 2006 issue of DE and delivered to 63,000 subscribers comprising design engineers and engineering managers who are 100% BPA-audited buyers of computer-aided engineering software, hardware, and technologies in enterprise OEM and SMB manufacturers.
