"Pressures to shorten product design cycles and time-to-market have always been the driving force behind the development of prototyping technologies," said Anthony J.
Lockwood, editorial director of DE.
"SMB manufacturers haven't been able to take advantage of these technologies until recently".
"Rapid prototyping, rapid manufacturing, and reverse engineering are now becoming viable technologies for them because of lower pricing, better quality, and higher functionality".
"Another important development is greater integration with the major MCAD software programs," continued Lockwood.
"For example, NextEngine, a manufacturer of compact, desktop 3D scanners, has a menu item within SolidWorks, a leading MCAD software program".
"SMBs can now not only afford the machine, but there is no additional initial programming or software cost".
"The Elements of RPandM/Reverse Engineering newsletter dedicates an DE's authoritative voice to this dynamic area of the product design/development process; Our subscribers will find the product and technology solutions they seek in a specialised, timely, easy-to-use editorial format, and marketers will be able to connect with a highly-targeted, well-qualified audience of design and manufacturing engineers who evaluate, recommend, specify, and authorize the purchase of rapid prototyping, rapid manufacturing, and reverse engineering hardware and software tools for their design engineering/manufacturing applications".
