Durr to show paint shop 3D simulation and robot

A Durr product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Mar 2, 2006

A 3D virtual reality simulation system for optimising paint shop layouts and a versatile robotic trim component painting station will be shown at VW's 'Automation live' at the Hannover Fair.

During April 24-28, 2006, Durr will be appearing at the Hanover Fair, Germany, as part of the 'Automation live' event.

'Automation live' is a platform, initiated by Volkswagen (VW), that will be used jointly by VW and selected suppliers to present innovative plant concepts and automation solutions for vehicle and component manufacture.

Durr will highlight two paint technology products: * The 'Powerwall' 3D simulation system for paint shops.

This virtual reality tool makes three dimensional visualisation of the full painting process possible.

Simulations that reflect reality so closely allow paint shop planning time to be reduced whilst also identifying at an early stage the interface problems that can arise when a number of process stations are linked together.

For Durr customers 'Powerwall' represents cost savings in the form of optimum plant layouts and carefully checked processes.

* A robotic trim component painting station.

The original model of this plant was supplied in 2005 to Inapal Plasticos of Palmea/Portugal; the station is used there to paint trim components for the new VW Eos convertible model.

At the heart of the plant is a Durr EcoRP6 F140 paint robot.

This is a face-lifted version of the Eco RP robot, sales of which have already topped the 2,000 mark.

The new version offers maximum flexibility of movement and is especially suited to the task of painting trim components in smaller booths.
