CNC plasma-arc profiler has quick set-up
UK stainless steel stockholder has acquired a CNC plasma-arc cutting and profiling machine based on its quick set-up times that can be achieved and its fast traverse and cutting speeds.
Outokumpu Stainless Distribution has opened a new Plate and Tubular Service Centre located at their central site in Sheffield, UK New facilities include plasma-arc, waterjet and laser cutting as well as cold plate sawing and updated tubular warehousing

Waterjet profiles and cuts rapidly
A CNC waterjet cutting machine is helping aUK fabricator to achieve a much faster turnaround on the profiles and fabrications.
Profile follower burner can be CNC retrofitted
For those fabricators looking to move away from employing sub-contract plate profiling services, a co-ordinate gas cutting machine is being offered at a low 'entry level' price.
These facilities, together with the company's continually updated coil service centre have created a centre of UK excellence for all stainless steel needs.
As part of the new facility, Outokumpu has invested in a Suprarex plasma cutting machine from ESAB Automation.
The company has a long standing relationship with ESAB and this latest investment follows the successful investment in 2000 in a Suprarex SXE-P 4500 cutting machine, complete with CNC control and an underwater cutting bed.

Plasma arc profiling system cuts precise parts
Specifically designed for precision plasma applications, a profiling machine combines high productivity, exceptional accuracy and advanced process integration to cut quality parts.
Low cost cutting machine brings extra benefits
Capable of being used as a high speed plasma machine or for single or twin head oxy-fuel cutting, features and benefits normally associated with more expensive cutting machines are offered.
Cutting and profiling machines improve quality
Around oxy-fuel, plasma, laser and water jet cutting, a range of machines deliver better cut quality, higher cutting speeds, lower operating costs and automation systems integration.
The machine was selected because of the quick set-up times that can be achieved and the fast traverse and cutting speeds - even on thick plate.
The new investment is a heavy duty Suprarex machine has been designed to withstand the rigours of heavy duty industrial use.
It has a huge cutting capacity of 3mm to 150mm for stainless steel, so that just one machine can be used to cut both thick and thin material.
The 1000A power is regulated automatically depending on thickness to be cut.
All plasma-arc cutting functions are controlled automatically from the CNC database and optimum cutting quality is ensured without operator intervention.
This ensures that changeover and set-up times between different thickness changes are kept to a minimum.
Gas selection and pressures are also changed automatically to ensure best quality.
The machine's drives include the latest high speed AC drives, enabling cutting and positioning speeds of up to 24m/min.
Rapid response and acceleration enable high cutting quality to be maintained in all parts of the profile.
Automatic height control underwater maintains a constant height between torch and plate.
Another important feature is collision protection on the torch height control.
This eliminates damage from tipped parts and allows rapid setting after any consumable change.
The CNC control has colour graphics to enable the operator to see parts to be cut and verify part in the dimensions of the plate.
Efficient linking to a remote CAD/CAM system and on board standard shapes ensure easy and efficient loading of parts to be cut.
The water table allows plates to be submerged underwater when cut to eliminate any negative environmental aspects of plasma cutting - noise, fumes and glare are eliminated by cutting underwater.
Steve Martin of Outokumpu commented: "The Suprarex is the next stage in our production to become the UK's Centre of Excellence.
With increased demands to produce quality products within acceptable lead times.
The machine gives us the capability to increase our capacity to meet customer expectations.
The support and service we have received from ESAB during the project has been excellent and we will continue to develop our partnership built over the past 10 years in line with the business's future growth. Request a free brochure from ESAB Cutting Systems ...
