Plasma-arc profiler enables small batch work

An ESAB Cutting Systems product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Aug 21, 2007

A customised plasma-arc cutting and profiling system has enabled a maker of building components to produce small batch sizes of 100 to 200 pieces economically and accept customised projects.

The installation of a customised plasma cutting system from ESAB Cutting Systems has enabled a leading European manufacturer of building components to produce small batch sizes of 100 to 200 pieces economically and accept customised projects.

Products include facades, doors, windows and railings.

In addition, the company has brought back in house most of the cutting services which were previously subcontracted to external suppliers.

The Eagle guiding machine, cutting table, controls, software and a plasma system are all components of the system and each has been harmonised, said ESAB, so that absolute process control is guaranteed.

The maximum plate thickness to be cut is 30mm, which is ideal for the plasma-arc cutting process.

The ESAB plasma-arc PT-24 cutting head is used for the thickness range from 1 to 15mm.

The PT-600 can cut material thicknesses up to 30mm.

At the 'heart' of the system is the ESAB EPP 200 system which permanently supplies 5 to 200A power and features an automatic switch-over from the PT-24 to PT-600 heads.

It enables very high cutting speeds of up to 3750mm/min.

With one common power source for two plasma-arc cutting heads, major cost savings are being achieved, claimed ESAB.

The Eagle is specially designed for high precision plasma-arc applications.

It combines high productivity and precision with state-of-the-art process control and a highly competitive price.

The COLUMBUS programming software runs on a standard PC.

The cutting parameters are programmed by the NCE controller resulting in fully automatic setup of all machine and cutting parameters such as gas pressure, current, voltage, gas type, speed, ignition height, deceleration and acceleration times.
