Non-contact safety switches provide a high degree of protection for operators in areas where cleaning or contamination are notable factors.

With the introduction of their CMS non-contact safety switches, Euchner have extended their field of application for safety guard monitoring A high degree of protection is provided in a compact design, offering system operators significant advantages in areas where cleaning or contamination are notable factors

Compared with electromechanical safety switches, CMS non-contact safety switches are a preferred option if a machine is subject to heavy vibrations, high standards of hygiene are required (for instance, in the food industry), or where guard door misalignment can occur.

The CMS non-contact safety switches are interlocking devices designed to protect people and machines and operate on a magnetic action principle.

They provide a coded, tamper-proof system which has been specifically developed to monitor moving machine parts and moveable safety guards.

CMS switches offer many advantages, including the fact that the sensor units can be actuated from different directions.

They are immune to mechanical wear because of the long service life of the reed contacts within the read head (rated at over 100 million switching cycles).

For convenience the coding for all the actuators in a particular product type is identical, keeping service spares requirements to an absolute minimum.

CMS switches consist of three components, the actuator, the read head and the evaluation unit.

The actuator and the read head feature IP67 protection and come as matched pairs.

Five different housings are available, offering the system operator either rectangular or cylindrical designs, depending upon the application.

The read head and actuator can also be fitted behind stainless steel, ensuring that CMS switches are of particular use in the food industry or in conditions where contaminants such as dirt or moisture are prevalent.

In applications of this nature, the switching distances are reduced in ratio to the barrier material and wall thickness, Importantly, the read head only responds to a specific matching actuator, and is connected to an evaluation unit fitted downstream, which effectively acts as the system monitor.

As a function of the position of the reed contacts, the safety circuit is switched via internal relays.

A variety of evaluation units are offered, selected depending on the overall system safety category required and the number of read heads to be connected.
