Latest CAM software on show at Westec

An EdgeCAM product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Mar 26, 2007

New features of latest CAM, CNC and sheet metal software to be exhibited at Westec

EdgeCAM and Radan will be participating in Westec Advanced Productivity Exposition (APEX), taking place March 26 - 29, 2007, at the Los Angeles Convention centre, Los Angeles California.

This premier event presents manufacturing and metalworking technologies used in the production of world-class products.

Sponsored by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), American Machine Tool Distributors' Association (AMTDA), and the Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT), the APEX is expected to attract manufacturing professionals ranging from company executives to production engineers.

EdgeCAM will display its latest release, Version 11.5 in booth #3168.

Offering significant time savings in toolpath generation and simulation, in some cases up to 50%, EdgeCAM delivers a wealth of new functionality to further support machining for traditional and latest generation multi-axis machines.

EdgeCAM Simulator, a state-of-the-art visualization tool, provides realistic representation of the complete machine tool and cutting cycle.

It is particularly useful for the simulation of 5-axis, surface and helical toolpaths, enabling off-line program prove out for faster routing to production.

EdgeCAM 11.5 further strengthens its established multi-axis simultaneous machining strategies with 5-axis capabilities to streamline the programming of machines with standard or complex table configurations, like nutated tables.

Industries like aerospace and automotive will benefit from the new 5-axis roughing capabilities.

Manufacturing flexibility is increased by new Multiple Pass and Multiple Depth options, applied individually or in combination for the generation of multiple roughing passes and finishing cuts with the user maintaining control over the order of the passes.

The enhanced Rest Finishing cycle offers a new strategy to automatically select the most efficient toolpath for steep or shallow finishing operations, providing the best possible surface finish.

Hole machining has been streamlined with operations for milling and turning; and Feature Finding enhancements, providing support for O-ring groove machining and support for more types of hole terminations.

EdgeCAM's Part Modeler 3D modeling tool for fast and accurate construction or editing of solid models showcases a new Windows XP-style user interface incorporating customisable menus and toolbars with advanced features like flyouts and tooltips.

The consistency in look and feel with other EdgeCAM modules provides the user with a seamless transition from design through manufacture.

Also to be shown is Radan 07, the latest version of Radan's industry leading CAD/CAM software for sheet metal applications is now shipping to customers in the USA.

The key focus for the latest release is Material utilisation, helping our users combat the ever rising cost of raw materials.

"True Shape" nesting capabilities allow the user to nest components around clamps, provide angular orientation of parts within the nest and accurately compensate for individual tool shapes.

Also in Radan 07 is an improved remnant handling method - with automatic recording of material for re-use in our "Remnant Nesting/Remnant Tracking" tool.

Also included is the latest release of Radbend CNC for offline programming of press brake machines with full 3D model simulation of the bending process.

Combining high productivity with ease of use, the software includes features such as automatic bend sequence calculation, automatic tool selection and automatic finger stop placement, as well as powerful collision detection of components with the machine and its tooling.

By programming and verifying bending operations offline, Radbend CNC frees up valuable machine time and reduces manufacturing costs.

With the 07 release, the software supports an even wider range of machine tools, including Amada, Beyeler, Accurpress, LVD, Finnpower, Pullmax/Ursviken and Trumpf.

Education and training are critical to production and cost efficiency.

The Westec conference includes SME-sponsored technical programming addressing advanced manufacturing technologies and processes.

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers is the world's leading professional society supporting manufacturing education.

Through its member programs, publications, expositions and professional development resources, SME promotes an increased awareness of manufacturing engineering and helps keep manufacturing professionals up to date on leading trends and technologies.

Headquartered in Michigan, SME influences more than half a million manufacturing practitioners and executives annually.

The Society, which celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2007, has members in more than 70 countries and is supported by a network of hundreds of technical communities and chapters worldwide.
