News Release from: EdgeCAM | Subject: EdgeCAM version 12 5-axis CAM
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk Editorial Team on 15 August 2007

5-axis CAM supports positional,
simultaneous work

CAM programming system extends the range of 5-axis machine tool support to include head/table configurations for simultaneous and positional machining work.

On show at EMO 2007 will be EdgeCAM's version 12 of its market-leading CAM system for NC part programming EdgeCAM version 12 extends the range of 5-axis machine tool support to include head/table configurations for both simultaneous and positional work

It provides accurate simulation of the machining process, including full kinematic display of all table/head and tool movement.

It also verifies work set-up and eliminates collision risks.

V12 offers faster tool path generation for 3D solid model geometry with prismatic slice output in rough machining.

Together with tool path smoothing, V12 generates true arcs based on the target geometry, giving improved accuracy and efficiency, as well as greatly reducing CNC files size.

Developments include the following.

* Options include reduced cycle time and further enhancement of tool path control for holes, to minimise air cuts and reduce cycle times.

* New turning strategies to improve chip removal on deep hole boring, increase tool life and programming capability.

the improved Strategy Manager has been expanded into turning and mill/turn environments.

It allows more manufacturing processes to be automated.

Process attributes such as tolerance and surface finish can be used to maximise machine productivity.

Working in conjunction with the EdgeCAM Part Modeller, Strategy Manager enables design intent to direct the manufacturing environment: surface finish can control optimum feed, speed and depth of cut for machining.

EdgeCAM Version 12, which supports Vista, has moved to SQL, the industry standard technology for handling databases and multi-user environments.

The move provides the potential for integration with other factory automation systems such as ERP, tool measurement and tool management.

EdgeCAM also offers core support for the latest CAD products, working with native data from such systems as Solid Edge v20, SolidWorks 2008, CATIA v5 R17 and Inventor 2008.

EdgeCAM's international sales director, Simon Lee, said: "Our presence at EMO is an important step in consolidating market position in continental Europe.

The show also creates an excellent opportunity to meet with potential customers, especially those experiencing manufacturing headaches in the CNC programming of 5-axis and mill/turn machines".
