Aegeas Flexographiki and Edale lead in Greece

An Edale product story

Alpha Aegeas and Edale cooperate to produce superior labels

Alpha Aegeas is a leading wide web Flexo pre-press company based in Athens.

Maintaining its leading edge in Flexo quality lead them to diversify their activities into narrow web printing where Aegeas Fexographiki now supplies top end print quality labels and packaging with just-in-time delivery.

The flexo press selection process took a long time and ranged from flexo/screen combination presses to multi-colour modular presses.

In the end, the key reasons they opted for, UK manufacturer, Edale's five-colour, fully UV, compact Alpha flexopress were as follows: The press had to respond to mostly short to medium job runs with quick set-up and change-over.

Also to be able to run not just self adhesive labels but also a range of mono-web packaging materials.

95% of the jobs are a maximum of six colours - so why then a five colour press? With a bit of effort and ingenuity pre-press experts are able to convert six colour jobs into five colours resulting in a major advantage.

Because of lower plate costs and lower hourly press rate of the five colour press compared with the larger modular press, it gives them a distinct competitive advantage in a price driven market.

Minimum material waste was also a key target as this influences margins strongly.

The Alpha is only 2.5 metres long so the distance from unwind to rewind is much shorter then on an equivalent modular press of a 6 metre length, achieving major material savings.

Print quality was something the company did not want to compromise on and aimed at the highest possible level - the Alpha matches the best flexo presses on the market.

To prove this point, Edale commissioned Aegeas Flexographiki to provide artwork and plates for their Labelexpo Europe 2005 demonstration print jobs on both the Alpha and modular Beta UV flexo presses.

The resulting labels satisfied many visitors.

Local technical support has been another important point and with the long-standing collaboration with Graph-Electronics (Edale's Greek agent), the best combination was found.

The company is dawning on its 2nd year in production and looks back with great pleasure to having established themselves in the Greek narrow web label and packaging market thanks to the right press choice, its quality, reliability and operator friendliness.
