Several East Midlands members of the Engineering Forum are now working on export enquires following the success of the suppliers ?Blind Dating' interviews set up between some of Switzerland's leading manufacturing groups at the East Midlands Manufacturing Show at Donington Park, Derby.

Said Fred Mead, chief executive of the Engineering Forum, which represents some 235 engineering companies in the East Midlands and behind the arrangements for the blind date meetings: "Through our connections in overseas offices we were able to draw together a delegation to the manufacturing exhibition of nine senior buyers from eight leading Swiss engineering companies which included ABB to attend our stand at the show.

As a result, companies in the East Midlands had the benefit of 92, face to face supplier/buyer meetings and some real solid business looks set to be won." The Engineering Forum, which is backed by the East Midlands Development Agency and the Department of Trade and Industry, has also worked with Trade Partners UK and the British Embassy in Bern.

"As a result we have been able to put together full supportive packages in this very important and UK friendly region of Europe," maintains Mead.
