Exhibition for testing and analysis

An Engineering Integrity Society product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Feb 9, 2007

The 24th Instrumentation, Analysis and Testing Exhibition has been announced to take place at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon.

The 24th Instrumentation, Analysis and Testing Exhibition will take place on 7 March 2007 at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, UK.

As always, visitors and exhibitors are invited to this well-established event of the Engineering Integrity Society.

The exhibition is well attended by those who use or specify equipment in a variety of engineering environments.

In addition to the main exhibition, there will be two free presentations taking place during the day and both visitors and exhibitors are welcome to attend.

These are: 'Test and CAE working together' (G Rowlands and E R Cawte, nCode International ) Fatigue analysis has been possible in both test and CAE domains for many years.

Whilst the benefits of Virtual Product Development are understood, and are particularly relevant in fatigue, it remains a discipline in which both test and CAE tools are used.

CAE fatigue tools provide speed and cost advantages over fatigue testing, and particularly lend themselves to comparative analyses.

However fatigue predictions are notoriously sensitive to the inputs and simplistic loading assumptions can be far from realistic.

Therefore it is common to base fatigue analyses on real measured loads.

It is also important to compare test-based predictions, analysis predictions and physical test results to ensure good correlation.

The presentation concludes with a simple example of signal processing integrated with a CAE fatigue process.

'Modern instrumentation for in-service gear alignment' (J Rosinski - Transmission Dynamics, JR Dynamics , Northern Power Transmission Research Laboratories UK) This paper considers challenges in planning and conducting measurements to explain component failures and to assist with type testing.

Several case studies are given which demonstrate needs for new methods and innovative instrumentation to acquire in-service load information on gears, chains, couplings and shafts.

The Heritage Motor Centre is situated in the heart of the Midlands just 5 minutes from Junction 12 of the M40.
