Epicor Selected Following Successful Implementation in Neighbouring Tanzania.

Epicor Software Corporation, a leading provider of integrated enterprise software solutions for the midmarket, has announced that following a lengthy evaluation process, The Government of Malawi has selected Epicor Enterprise as the basis for a multi-ministerial accounting system following the success of a similar Epicor project in neighbouring Tanzania.

The Epicor solution will initially provide General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Cash Management customised for the Public Sector to the Ministry of Finance to help manage the national budget.

"We tried implementing CODA financials about seven years ago and were not successful".

"We selected Epicor after learning about its success story in Tanzania," explains Mr Kampanje, Accountant General for The Government of Malawi.

"Epicor provided us with the best return on investment and has been successfully implemented in other East African countries on time and within budget." Tanzania has also deployed the Epicor Financials suite, a proven, award-winning, and versatile collection of highly adaptable, totally integrated accounting applications to 43 key government ministries, 20 Regional centres and 32 Local Authorities.

The system gives the Accountant General of Tanzania 's Department the ability to consolidate accounts and provide centralised fund tracking.

The use of traceable purchase orders allowed much tighter controls over purchasing and provided swifter response in the honouring of purchase agreements.

"We are pleased to be working with the government of Malawi on this project which will provide a strategic framework to allow for accurate accounting and better use of treasury and donor organisation funds," says Harry Mowat, channel director, EMEA for Epicor.

"Like our other projects in East Africa, local IT specialists will implement, customise and maintain the system which will reduce the need for costly external consultants and empower the government to develop the system to fulfil its needs." Soft-Tech, a leading East African system integrator will head the project.

Bhakti Shah, lead project manager adds, "This is a major project and we will develop both a flexible accounting platform and provide IT training to the Accountant General's department to enable provision of internal support to its users and expand the system to other key organisations over due time." The project is due for completion in August 2006.
