Compact laser marker is highly competitive

An Electrox product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Dec 19, 2005

A very small laser marking machine at a very economic price -developed for companies where floor space is limited - will be demonstrated at the UK's Autosport Engineering Show.

The new, very small MaxBox laser marking machine will be demonstrated by Electrox at the Autosport Engineering Show in January 2006.

This will be the first showing in the UK of the new machine, which was launched at EMO in Hanover in September 2005 at a fiercely competitive price.

The MaxBox is a radical new laser marking system developed specifically for companies where floor space is at a premium - with a very small footprint of only 600mm x 600mm, the machine is easily accommodated in any workshop as a stand-alone unit or even on a workbench.

managing director of Electrox, Howard Moore, said: "Laser is the marking technology of the future, giving a clean, precise, indelible mark on a wide variety of materials.

However, many of the companies which would benefit from using a laser marking system within their production process do not have the space to dedicate to it.

Recognising this, we have created a system which is ideally suited to those customers.

We endeavour to offer every customer the solution to his individual marking requirements, and the MaxBox is another option which we can offer." The MaxBox was designed, developed and manufactured by Electrox's own engineers at its site in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, UK.

One of one of few fully integrated manufacturers of laser marking machines, the company supports a substantial team of design, application, and electronics engineers as well as a comprehensive manufacturing plant.

This ensures that customers get the system most appropriate to their needs, not the one which is available.

"It also ensures," Howard Moore continued, "That 'the buck stops here'.

If a customer has a query over any part of the marking system, we have an engineer to help.

The high level of service we give is important to us and to our customers." The MaxBox laser marking system is based on a fibre laser, the most rugged and durable laser power available.

The technology was originally developed for hostile telecoms applications where the laser had to function for a minimum of 25 years without fault or failure.

It can operate accurately at temperatures up to 450 deg C ambient and is unaffected by humidity levels, airborne contamination or vibration.

The MaxBox is easily installed and uses single phase power.

The laser connects directly the scanning head so there is no coupling loss or reduction in beam quality.

It is immune to misalignment or optical contamination.

The fibre laser generates less waste heat than other types of laser, so the system can be entirely air cooled.

Maintenance is minimal because there are no mirrors to align or clean and the system is dust-sealed for life.

There are few consumables, giving a minimal cost of ownership.

Despite its small size, the MaxBox is available in 10 and 20 Watt versions, powerful enough for virtually any application.

It is guaranteed for a full 17,000h or 2 years, whichever is the sooner.

The MaxBox is controlled by the proprietary Electrox software system, developed and written in-house by the company's own engineers specifically for industrial applications.

Easy to use and proven world-wide, it offers a very high level of flexibility in a simple, user-friendly format.

Its tiny size means it is easily integrated into other processes so is also attractive to integrators and OEM partners.
