Laser marking product development
service offered

UK laser marking machines and systems manufacturer has established a Product Development Department dedicated to working with customers right from point of enquiry.

So committed is Electrox to ensuring the customer is able to make an informed choice of laser technology and system that it has established a Product Development Department dedicated to working with customers right from point of enquiry * Experienced engineers - staffed entirely by experienced laser applications and systems engineers, the department operates in support of the sales team and is in direct dialogue with the customer as soon as it becomes apparent that a more customised system is necessary

"We are well placed to provide economically priced, bespoked as well as standard systems because we manufacture every part of the marking system on site, so we have the necessary capability and skills to hand in our own facility.

Just as important, because we offer the full range of laser technologies and hardware options, we can give objective assistance to the customer and are not restricted to selling what we have available 'off the shelf'.

No task is too complex," explained director/general manager of Electrox, Howard Moore.

The last decade has seen a proliferation of laser marking technologies, giving the customer the opportunity to select the technology and type of system to the application.

Moore said: "As one of few fully integrated laser marking system manufacturers, we are now able select the best technology for the application.

Of equal importance, we can modify the software and build the hardware to suit each application exactly, even down to the height of the table.

This is crucial for the customer because it ensures he installs the type of laser marking system which will give him the best productivity, whether he needs one offs, a stand alone system accommodated in a corner of a small workshop, a large workstation, or a system integrated into a production line".

The department has produced simple ideas for solving apparently complex problems.

These including such elementary tasks as adapting the workstation to the height of the existing equipment - or even the height of the operator.

For example, it recently built a system for a customer to mark paper labels and metal data plates in one set-up.

Electrox developed a 3-axis, fully programmable two- station marking system.

It is based on a standard Maxim workstation with pneumatically operated automatic doors, lowered workstation and fume extraction, One station handles laser-engravable paper stock and the other the metal (usually anodised aluminium) data plates.

Special fixtures load paper and metal parts side by side.

The laser head moves automatically from one station to the other according to the requirement.

Focussing is programmed into the system.

In another recent application, the Product Development Department has designed a laser marking system which will handle components containing water.

Initially, the task had been to help the customer change from metal to plastics component casings.

Electrox applications engineers worked with the customer to develop an additive which would enable the plastic to marked easily and effectively and developed additional programs within the proprietary Electrox software to suit the marking requirement.

In addition, the marking is required to take place after testing, at which point the components had been submerged in water and would be delivered to the laser marker wet.

Electrox developed a fully sealed system, which would prevent the ingress of water or other solutions during marking to provide a reliable, easy to use, productive and above all cost effective marking system.

Moore said: "Giving the customer precisely what he needs is the essence of Electrox.

Our manufacturing system is organised in such a way that we can handle one-off modifications easily and our engineers, all of whom are highly skilled in the application of laser physics to industrial marking, are deployed in such a way as to ensure individual attention to each customer's production system.

Each application, however simple or complex, is looked at on its merits and the solution developed from the choice of laser technology. Request a free brochure from Electrox ...

A system can be standard, modified or bespoke according to requirement.".
