Positioning system speeds multi-spindle set-up

An Elesa (UK) product story

Electronic positioning system reduce set-up time and significantly improve productivity on multi-spindle machines requiring frequent resetting.

Elesa - long time market leaders in machine elements and rotational instrumentation, have come up with a way to reduce set-up time and significantly improve productivity on multi-spindle machines requiring frequent resetting.

Their Electronic Positioning System includes its own programmable controller or can function with the machine's own PLC.

This allows the operator to see at a glance which shafts are in correct position and to then select new rotational ratios for shaft travel, etc Quick set-up is crucial to efficient operation where up to 32 drive shafts need to be re-initialised for new batch runs and the Elesa system offers exactly that.

The system features high quality absolute optical encoders, which maintain their zero positioning when the system is switched off and are connected via an electronically robust bus network.

It has an RS 485 serial transmission interface for simple cable connections.

An important feature is the direct interchangeability of DE51 electro-optic sensors for the Elesa DD51 mechanical unit, thus allowing simple retro-fit and upgrade on existing machines.

Upgraded functions include the ability to program ratios, change metric/imperial readouts, adapt display orientation for vertical/upside down or horizontal/inverted presentation and to set different tolerance bands for each batch run.

Elesa believe that their new electronic positioning system could benefit most machines using 10 or more shaft position indicators, giving many of the benefits of a fully automated machine.
