Micro Motion Coriolis flowmeters from Emerson Process Management are being used to control the blending of cattle feed mixtures, improving the end product quality and consistency The ability of the Micro Motion flowmeters to perform reliably with the varying viscosity of the molasses feedstock, and tolerate the resulting slurry conditions, has improved plant availability and reduced maintenance costs compared to the original nutating disc (wobble plate) positive displacement meters

The Micro Motion flowmeters are used to blend molasses with various nutritional additives and water, all supplied at varying temperatures and viscosities: but these variations have no effect on the meter accuracy.
The Micro Motion units provide precise and consistent mixtures, to which dry grain from a belt weigh conveyor is added, followed by hot animal fat.
Both the on-line live density and flow measurement of the heated mixture are used as process control inputs, to assure the delivery quantity, and the quality of the feed.
This improved quality control has been recognised by the farmers, who know they can rely on this brand of cattle feed to bring their cattle to the optimum slaughter weight in the prescribed time.
The result has been an increased sales demand.
Initially the Micro Motion meters were introduced as simple replacements for volumetric meters, and the reduction of the maintenance needed resulted in a forecast payback of 20 months.
But in addition the Micro Motion Coriolis flowmeters eliminated the plant downtime that arose regularly from blockages in the previous flowmeters: this reduced the actual payback period achieved with the new meters. Request a free brochure from Emerson Process Management ...
The real business benefit was obtained from the increased sales that resulted from the improved overall product quality and consistency of the cattle feed!.
