Special reference to innovation and development - is the thematic "common denominator" of the latest issue of "injection", a company newspaper about injection moulding machines and technology.

Having the courage of one's convictions - with special reference to innovation and development - is the thematic "common denominator" of the latest issue of "injection", a newspaper produced by Engel specially for its customers The title story "2002 - Looking to the future" already sets the tone, giving a detailed account of how Engel is continuously equipping itself for the future, two examples being the building extensions at the parent factory in Schwertberg and the production facility in Canada

A particularly courageous Engel customer is the firm of Plastkov in Liberec, Czech Republic.

Recognizing the collapse of Communism in former Czechoslovakia as an ideal business opportunity, this company developed from very modest beginnings - with a used Engel injection moulding machine built in 1965 and a corrugated cardboard container as a makeshift moulding shop - to become one of the Czech Republic's most modern and most renowned injection moulding firms.

And if that wasn't enough, Plastkov courageously took up another challenge: towards the end of last year, this medium-sized firm acquired the majority holding of the former state-owned enterprise ETA, a household name in Czechoslovakia and other Eastern-bloc countries for high-quality household appliances, and hence also the responsibility for a further 1,700 employees.

Accompanying this article is the Guest Commentary by Dr Alexander Hasch, Managing Director of Hasch and Partners, a firm of lawyers with branches in Austria and the Czech Republic, who outlines the basic legal requirements for companies wishing to set up businesses in the Czech Republic and also gives useful advice for investors.

"Development" is also the theme of the section "Engel and Innovation" in which readers are told exactly what is meant by "customer-oriented development at Engel".

Further technology-related themes this time include the use of a tiebarless machine for high-precision injection moulding at Gaudlitz in Coburg/Germany, a plastics processing firm with a great many award-winning developments to its credit, a clever solution to a two-component elastomer injection moulding problem and some useful background information on Engel's new "Watermelt" technology and the "Perimeter safeguarding program" for automated production.

Rounding off this 5th issue of "injection", which is published both in German and in English, are the usual "News in brief" items about new technological and/or organizational developments, including, for example, a report on the Austrian State Prize for Innovation 2001, which has been awarded to Engel for its development of the all-electric Engel E-Motion injection moulding machine.

Those interested may request a free-of-charge copy of "injection No.5, March 2002" from Silvia Kastner, Fax 0043 / 7262 / 620 - 13061 Engel is the world's largest single-brand manufacturer of injection moulding machines and at the same time one of the world's leading manufacturers of plastics processing machinery.
